Somah Journeys

Small Steps to Soothe the Heart & Find Common Ground

It’s been a while since my last message, and if you read my previous blog/newsletter you’ll know I’ve been all over the map! Right now, I’m in Bali, on a day off from co-leading a Nervous System Rewire, Restorative, and Yoga Nidra training with my dear friend Tina Nance.

Unveiling the Essence Behind Somah Journeys: A Journey into Meaning and Spirit

My offerings are under the name Somah Journeys, which serves as an extension of the School of Sacred Arts, co-founded with my partner Troy McFadden. This branch is dedicated to programs that resonate deeply with my own personal journey. Some of you might be curious about the meaning behind the name, so I thought I’d take a moment to share the story and significance behind it.

Transition and change

Transition and change have become the main themes in my life right now. After a few years of stability and a home base in Thailand, I’m stepping into a new chapter—one that feels both familiar, exciting and yet somewhat daunting. I’m returning to a nomadic lifestyle, albeit temporarily, and I’m filled with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead.

New Beginnings and Soulful Opportunities Await

My recent 2-month trip to Europe has thrown my newsletter schedule off a bit, but now that I’m back, I’d love to reflect on my journey and share some exciting updates and offerings with you.

When things are adrift. Finding a way of BEing, born of the Heart

I’d like to share a bit about the art of intention setting as it can help us realign ourselves with our deeper purpose, particularly during times when we feel disoriented. Personally, I’ve been struggling to find inspiration lately in certain areas of my life. During such moments of feeling adrift, it’s beneficial to refocus on our sense of alignment and purpose.

Emma’s Yoga Nidra Story

My journey with Yoga Nidra began nearly 20 years ago (alongside my dear friend Lorraine Taylor, see more below!), and since then, I’ve delved into its practice, studied its intricacies, and immersed myself in its wisdom.

Reconnect in the Ship of Relations

The equinox is an astronomical event that occurs twice a year when the sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in nearly equal lengths of day and night worldwide. Specifically, there are two equinoxes: the vernal equinox in spring and the autumnal equinox in fall. During these times, the Earth’s axis is neither tilted away from nor towards the sun, creating a balance in the amount of daylight and darkness experienced across the globe. As we find ourselves in the equinox, I’ve been reflecting on some of the following, especially when it comes to relationships.

Reconnect to Soul through Rites of Passage

Exactly twenty years ago, during my first vision quest along the breathtaking coastline of Vancouver Island in the Pacific Northwest, the profound depth and support inherent in this rite of passage was illuminated to me. A vision quest is one example of an ancient practice rooted in earth-honouring cultures that serves as a poignant marker of life’s transitions and milestones. Indeed I had left my life in Toronto behind and was heading to Thailand without much clarity on what was to come, but courageously heeding the call of my soul. This sacred journey, literally a stepping stone on my travels, presented itself serendipitously and would lay a foundation for the years to come.

Slow down and Savour

In this note today, I’d like to invite you to embrace a slowing down and to play with savouring each word, each image, and each breath as you notice what it invokes in you. For in these moments of intentional presence, we might discover the true richness that is available when we stop and notice.
