Oṁ śhānti śhānti śhāntih

-Asatoma Sadgamaya (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad)

Lead me from the unreal (ignorance) to the real (truth)

Lead me from darkness to light

Lead me from time-bound consciousness (death) to the timeless state of being (immortality)

Trained directly with Richard Miller in iRest  as well as the I Am Yoga Nidra Amrit method  through Kamini Desai and Total Yoga Nidra with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli , Simone guides Yoga Nidra practices and workshops when facilitating teacher trainings and retreats. She also engages herself as a Yoga Nidra trainer online.

Yoga Nidra greatly influences all of her teachings and approach to living and she offers earthy, nature-based practices that encompass an *indigenous and shamanic approach.

This Yoga Nidra recording is a gift to you. The teaching regarding LOVE comes from the Siksika/Sauk people and was passed to me through an elder and shared here with permission. I also use the words and structure according to iRest or ‘Integrative Restoration’ as taught by Richard Miller.

Please enjoy!

Yoga Nidra with Simone

You can take great joy in knowing that you are the Life force that runs through it all, that you are the Consciousness coursing through the seed and the tree, which casts its shade as pure Love, asking for nothing in return. You are all the elements and That which holds it all – pure Awareness, pure Be-ingness…. Love pouring through everything, in every moment.

Yoga Nidra mentors us back into equilibrium

In our modern “times” of ever increasing haste, busy-ness, and consumerism, where thinking and doing predominate, we often live in great imbalance in our inner and outer realms. Yoga Nidra mentors us back into equilibrium, where feeling and being becomes our internal compass for truly living.

Rooted in Eastern Tantric philosophy, the practice of Yoga Nidra shows us the way to having direct access to our own divine intelligence and the liberation that lies within one’s own being. These same notions are also reflected back within the shamanic approaches across cultures.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is an intuitive yet systematic meditation practice, that denotes the “sleep of the yogi”. It lays out a road map that allows us to explore the territory experientially through the various layers of our body/mind/spirit complex (koshas), from gross to subtle, supported by our innate wisdom and reorienting us back to the very ground of BEing.

What sets this apart from regular sleep is that it is approached consciously. Supported by engaging the power of intention known as ‘sankalpa,’ (which is a way of being that is born of the heart) we are able to become mindful of our ever shifting states of consciousness, moving through them with awareness. Unlocking greater intuitive insight, poetic, artistic and creative inspiration as we come to know ourselves as undivided, as whole, connected to all of Life, despite the different states arising within and around us.

The current research behind Yoga Nidra in modern psychology and neuroscience is extensive and supports what the yogi/nis of old knew all along.

Yoga Nidra utilizes a powerful blend of practices that address stress reduction and offer a road map to deep insight or awakening. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Mindfulness
  • Deep relaxation
  • Breath work
  • Cultivating one-pointed concentration feelings or experiencefeelings or experiencefeelings or experience
  • Emotional/cognitive healing
  • Meditative inquiry
  • Supporting a process of dis-identification with the “objects or events” (be it thoughts, sensations, feelings or experiences that keep us fused to a single perspective) that arise in our field of consciousness.

Benefits of Yoga Nidra

The practice can serve us on multiple levels, by releasing deep-seated tensions physically, mentally and emotionally. Proven benefits include:

  • Increasing joy or well-being
  • Decreasing stress, anxiety and depression
  • Improving sleep
  • Increasing energy
  • Working with deep rooted belief systems and habitual patterns (samskaras) that no longer serve us

Doorways of Perception

Yoga Nidra opens doors of perception. Working with our varying states of consciousness, particularly our stages of sleep. As we move through changing brain frequencies we uncover secret doorways, that when approached with awareness, open us up to deep states of consciousness. From here we are able to purify and reprogram various layers of our being and bringing us more into alignment with the truth of who we are.

Lasting Effects

The practice of these methods of meditation, in which attention is brought to the different layers of your body and being; from gross to subtle (body, breath, mind, spirit – in yoga known as the koshas), one can achieve deep relaxation and ultimately come to profound inner realizations. Through accessing and working with the subtle levels of our inner world, we are able to affect change that ripples into our more conscious states, shifting our perspectives, habits and behaviors and ultimately our characters for the betterment of our relationship to ‘self’, all beings, environment and planet.
